It started at the kitchen table
For years, a group of us got together one Friday night a month for poker. Same guys, same chips, same drinks, same kitchen table. It was the best night of the month — until, somewhere along the way, it started to feel a little too familiar. We'd dealt 5-Card Draw, Hold'em, Seven-Card Stud and the handful of wild-card games we knew a thousand times over. We loved the night; we were just bored with the menu.
We went looking — and came up empty
So we went online to find fresh games to bring to the table. We figured the internet was full of them. It wasn't. What we found was scattered, half-explained, and written for casinos and tournaments — not for four friends and a bowl of pretzels. Nobody had pulled the good home games together in one place, explained the rules clearly, and shown you how a hand actually plays out. We kept wishing a site like that existed.
So we started inventing our own
If we couldn't find new games, we'd make them. Friday nights turned into a workshop. Someone would float a half-baked idea — a new wild-card rule, an extra community card, a twist on the draw — and we'd deal it out and see if it held up. Most flopped. A few were keepers, and those earned a permanent spot in the rotation. Before long we had a whole catalog of variants that existed nowhere but our kitchen table.
Why we built this site
Eventually one of us decided to stop wishing and build the site we'd been looking for all along. HomePoker.games is that site — a place for poker fans to discover new games, learn them with clear rules and a full four-player example hand, and then rate and comment on the ones they try. The games we invented on those Friday nights are here, alongside the classics, and we're always adding more.
