How to Play

Omaha looks like Texas Hold’em but with a twist that trips up newcomers: each player is dealt four private hole cards instead of two, and five shared community cards are dealt in the middle. The catch is the rule that defines the game — at showdown you must make your best five-card hand using EXACTLY two of your four hole cards plus EXACTLY three of the five community cards. You can’t use one hole card, you can’t use three, and you can’t play the board. Betting happens in four rounds, just like Hold’em.

A hand, step by step

1. Ante. Every player antes $1 to start the pot (no blinds). Four players make a $4 starting pot.
2. Hole cards. Each player is dealt four cards face-down. A betting round follows (pre-flop).
3. The flop. Three community cards are dealt face-up in the middle. Betting round.
4. The turn. A fourth community card is added. Betting round.
5. The river. A fifth and final community card is added. Final betting round.
6. Showdown. Best five-card hand using EXACTLY two hole cards + EXACTLY three board cards wins. All bets are $1, with a maximum of 3 raises per round.
